Pictures just like these shown in a Rachel Ray TV program video (highlighted on aol news 1/ 18/13) were published in Harper's Weekly news magazine in the mid-1800's to show what happens to toes when they are squished into pointy high heel shoes. To alleviate the squish, the young woman wearing the shoes in the middle picture was given an equally fashionable shoe with a squared toe. A good idea, however, to allay the woman's fear that square toed shoes would be unfashionable, the new shoes had even higher heels. While her toes were doing better, the video doesn't show the woman's whole body adjustments to accommodate for the higher heel. Her compensation will soon cause neck, back, lower back, hip, knee and or ankle problems and maybe migranes. Hopefully these shoes will wear out before she is recommended surgeries to correct them. Caveat Emptor.
